Guerrilla Drum Making DVD

 86 Minutes
John Dutra
www.guerrilladrummaking.com (http://www.guerilladrummaking.com/)

There
is an increasing number of online home-made videos and tutorials showing various
aspects of the drum making and drum finishing processes, some of these are are
reasonable and some are not so great. Many of the 'how its made' variety give an
insight into the major drum manufacturer's plants and processes that are very
informative, but use machines and techniques that the small-time or hobby
builder can never hope to use. John Dutra's Guerrilla Drum Making represents the
first professionally produced tutorial that I have come across regarding Drum
making that relies on common or garden tools and techniques - I am mightily
impressed.

Making a bodhran from a light fitting - Hacking Homebase #1

On a recent shopping trip to homebase Rob Forkner and Paul Marshall chanced upon some light fittings in a sale that were too good to pass up...

Rob and Paul retired toPaul's workshop and set about creating a drum using skin off-cuts plus the tools and industrial fixings available.

Because they were so cheap, we had bought two of the light fittings in the store intending to make a couple of different drums.

The Shell

The wood from which the lights were made was cheap hardwood and built using a barrel-stave method with a vertical grain.

			<title>Kids Drum Sets Part 1</title>
			<link>http://www.drumdojo.com/kids_drum_sets.htm</link>
			<description>Caveat Papa!
Advice for parents buying
cheap drum sets or kids drum sets

As we can see from the
popularity of the Young and Gifted
(dojotv/vid_young_drummer.htm)section of Dojo TV (dojotv/index.htm), Kids are really starting
to demand more and more from their equipment and, consequently, their poor
parents who have to pay for it.

This upsurge is
great for manufacturers and the drum industry who have created a whole new
marketplace for a whole new range of products. Some are genuine innovation, some
are simply repackaging.

	is 'Kids', 'Junior' or
'student' merely a nice way of saying 'budget', 'cheapo' or 'flimsy'

With the rising commercial
importance of junior drummers, their impressionable minds exposed to
hero-endorser-worship through MTV and their uncanny ability for persistence; you
WILL inevitably end up buying junior a drumset and you really have no choice
about it.

We say Caveat Papa - Let the Father Beware
